Jay Balkissoon – Instructor

Born and raised in Toronto, Jay is a proud Indo Caribbean woman. Jay has been in the industry for over a decade as a sought after talent; a gentle yet powerful force who has impacted every environment she touches.

Seneca College was where Jay’s employment search began in 2011. Having no idea what to study, she enrolled in business classes. She had always been an artist, but it had never occurred to her to turn her love of art into a career. When she learned about makeup, its artistry, and the countless career opportunities it offered, everything changed and she started her lifetime profession by switching her major to Cosmetic Techniques and Management.

Jay has enjoyed success as a freelancer since 2011. She books clients all around Ontario while running her own beauty and hair artistry business, with a specialty in Bridal.

Her career has allowed her to work in the fashion, bridal, and commercial industries where she has gained recognition and numerous publications for her efforts. Her desire to train and guide aspiring artists brought her to Glow, where she has played a key role in making sure her students graduate from the school with solid foundations in hair and makeup for a successful career in the beauty industry.

As an educator, she is dedicated to achieving educational excellence and takes pleasure in her ability to always learn in order to stay current with industry trends and standards.

Outside of makeup and hair, her hobbies include attending concerts, cleaning and organizing her kit, painting and expressing her creativity in any form she can as well as spending time with her cats and dogs.
