International Student Process Update

Acknowledgement

In light of the recent Government of Canada announcements on the International Student study permits processes, we understand Students and Agents may have several questions for the government of Canada. This general insight has been created to help you better understand how best to use this time while we all wait for additional information. Below is a short list of frequently asked questions that may be of help. As more information becomes available, we will continue to update this page. We recommend connecting with a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant for any specific answers.

The new measures will now require Study Permit applications to contain an additional document, specifically an attestation letter from the provincial government of Ontario.

We understand that any recent study permit applications will be returned for the time being until the Provincial government of Ontario has confirmed the process of obtaining the attestation letter. Once the process of obtaining this letter has been announced (by March 31, 2024), all new study permit applications will be required to be resubmitted along with the remaining study permit application documents to the Government of Canada.

This current hault of the Study Permit application process is temporary until approximately March 31, 2024. Once the provincial government of Ontario announces the information on how to obtain the attestation letter, new Students will be able to apply for their Canadian Study Permits.

Instead of pausing your College application, we encourage prospective Students to submit their documents for review. No fees will be collected at this time. Submitting your application documents for review is the best way to use this time effectively. This will allow your file to be proactively prepared.

Once the Attestation letter process is announced, steps can be taken to obtain it and add it to your application documents, ensuring that there are no unnecessary delays in the filing process. This will allow you get ahead of the potential backlog that is expected once the government of Canada reopens their application processing offices.

Current International Students may continue learning in order to complete the requirements of their program. Students of the ECA program that wish to apply for second year studies of the Canadore College ECE program may proceed with the application process based on grades and availability after successfully completing the first semester at GLOW College. While there are other Canadore campuses to choose from, applying and completing the program at Canadore North Bay campus may lead to PGWP.

You may continue to work during your studies.

No. You will be able to complete your education at in Canada if you have a current study permit.  Renewals inside Canada will not be impacted by this cap.
